Have you already taken a look at the fabulous new issue of STYLO magazine?
I contributed to the 1 Fabric/5 Ways spread. Five people were sent a piece of Alison Glass' PLUS fabric from the Handcrafted line and asked to create something inspired by this fabric. With this fabric as starting point, I created two outfits. Let's take a closer look at my boy's outfit.
This outfit is a hit. I love it, and so does my boy. He has worn it more or less continuously ever since the photoshoot.
Even before receiving the fabric, I knew I wanted to make a pair of Twisted Trousers from Thitchy Threads. These really are the coolest pants I've ever seen.
It's quite an easy sew, especially because the pattern is so well written and explained, but the result is so sophisticated. I love these pants.
As you can see in the picture below, I used a tiny bit of the fabric to line the front pockets.
I used some lightweight two-toned denim; using the light side for the front and the dark side for the back of the pants. It also allowed me to give a fun twist to the back pockets, by folding over the top in an asymmetric way. Here's a little drawing of how I adapted the pattern pieces.
The original pattern piece is shown in blue. With an offset of 1 cm (the seam allowance) I added an asymmetric trapezium to the top of the pocket. For these size 6 pants, I drew one side of 2 cm, the other of 4,5 cm, but you might want to adapt this if your pants are much smaller or larger. Next, I drew a mirror image of the same trapezium on top of the first one. I cut out the pieces and folded them to the outside according to the fold lines. I pressed them well, and then folded the other seam allowances to the inside. Then I pinned and stitched the pockets onto the pants.
Now, let's continue with the vest. This is the Aztec Hooded Vest from See Kate Sew. Another fun and relatively easy sew. This time the PLUS fabric ended up inside the hood.
For the outside of the vest, I used a teal babyrib, and I lined the body of the vest with some crazy colorful tribal fabric.
The outfit was completed with a store bought orange tee. Of course, I couldn't resist adding a golden pineapple! After all, it's the High Fructose issue! Pineapples rule!
For the photoshoot we used this fun straw hat. It really completes the summer look, don't you think.
I love your version of the twisted trousers! And only with one fabric!
